It's still Spring...

The winter garden is through...

Rutabagas in flower

My Russian kale has bolted...

Can't turn this stuff under... the ladybugs like the blooms...

Ladybug orgy...

Speaking of bugs...
Looks like a predator...

Definitely a predator...

Spiderwort

It's been raining... the Louisiana iris are happy...

 Mock orange...

American lady on clasping heliotrope

Green tree frog.

The poppies are heading into the sunset... the goldfinches are waiting in the tree branches...

I was very happy to see and learn the name of your Louisiana iris. I have these, too. Don't know where they came from or how we got them. They hang out at the Gator Pond and bloom in fairly deep shade. I just moved some to my front steps behind some pink justicia with the idea of trying to keep them as moist as they like to be. Will they bloom throughout the summer?

The long blooming iris comes from North Africa... iris ungularia. Looks the same.... Blooms from October through April. Definitely on my wish list....
Louisiana iris bloom in April-May. There are some louisiana iris natural to the area, your iris may be one of those... Try searching "zig zag iris"

Looks like you'll have buckets of rutabaga seed. We let our mustard bed go to seed this year and we'll probably get at least a pint or two of seeds. Enough to plant the whole yard... plus!

Was your spring as cool as ours, temp wise? The poppies are too cool. BTW my Big Blue Salvia that I transplanted has reappeared. Don`t see any seeding evidence, but am hoping to get over to that area soon where it is found in the wild to get some more. Maybe someday can send you some seed.

Thank you for helping with ID of my wildflowers. I am not calling the little blue wildflower a Penstemon any more but neither will I call it a Ruellia. I posted more pictures with views of the foliage and the base of the bloom -- like no petunia I ever saw. It remains a mystery. It does not compare with the Florida link.

I'm okay with calling wild Verbenas 'Vervain' and thank you for sending me looking again so I would realize it wasn't New York Ironweed.

@ Randy...
It's been cold! the weather man is calling for it to possibly be 90 today for the first time this year!!! we usually see 90 in March... Everything is all ate up with fungus from the rain and cool temps...
Re: salvia azura... Don't get some... get one, maybe.
I tried moving one into the garden my first year here (6 or 7 years ago)... it died...
I moved one last winter, it's growing... so far... some of those wildflowers don't want to be moved... Certainly don't want to kill the original patch...

@ Nell...
I have a number of penstemons in bloom... Let me see if I can't post them...
Re: purple flower... With a different computer, and a large screen, I can finally see a similarity with the penstemon bloom... which I couldn't see from the ipad.
