A Southern Garden in January

Why I garden in the South

sulfur yellow butterfly
A vegetable garden full of henbit is kind of embarrassing, but the butterflies like it fine... They say that God doesn't make junk....

Painted lady butterfly

The butterflies seem to be happy with the weeds...

Not just butterflies in the garden on this fine January day, I found a blue-tailed skink and a frog too!

Aha! Henbit...I have that too and was wondering what it was. You have an amazing assortment of life there in January.

I agree that the South is a wonderful place to garden. We have sunny skies and 60 degrees today. And, happy critters now that it has rained some. It looks like our rain is coming your way.

Fun blog! I've you'd like to participate in First Views, I'd say anything in the first week of February will be a first view.

As for NWF, I think they're beyond repair but I didn't want for my First Views piece to become an opinion post...

Skinks and frogs, oh my! I saw my first black bear of the year here in central Virginia on January 15th. At this rate leaves will be falling by mid June!
